This year will be the sixth Art Fair. In 2009, 65 galleries were in attendance and was a record year in terms of attendance and sales. Over 12,000 people visited the 2009 Fair and in excess of  1,100 artworks were sold. 2010 promises to showcase works from even more galleries, with the possibility of a new record.

The Edinburgh Art Fair will be held once again in the Edinburgh Corn Exchange. With a Charity Preview Evening and Drinks Reception to be held on Thursday, 18th November, the Fair will be open to the general public from Friday, 19th November through to Sunday, 21st November.

Last year’s visitors to the Edinburgh Art Fair were impressed with the sheer diversity of work on display. This fair is one of a few elite fairs where the range of styles and pricing is so immense. With this in mind, the Fair has to be considered as one of the best held in the UK.

Real Broadgate is a fantastic opportunity to partake in a diverse range of contemporary figurative art created by artists from all over the world, using a range of media – on show will be over 100 figurative artworks from painters, sculptors and printmakers.

The Affordable Art Fair is the leading showcase in the UK for contemporary art under £4000. The Fair was launched in London in 1999 and now takes place biannually in London and New York, annually in Bristol, Amsterdam, Brussels, Milan, Singapore and affiliate fairs include Sydney and Melbourne. This year, the Affordable Art Fair’s Spring Exhibition in London will be held from Thursday, 10th to Sunday, 13th March, 2011. The venue is Battersea Park and around 120 galleries will showcase an enormous variety of contemporary art under £4000.

The annual Chelsea Art Fair is an important part of any art lover’s calendar. In 2011 the fair was held 1st to 3rd of April, avoiding Easter, while for 2012 the fair will be held again later in April.

The Chelsea Art Fair has been held since 1996 and is famous for its “middle of the road” exhibits. Previous year, over 500 artists was showcased by 45 galleries. Beautiful examples of both contemporary and 20th century art in a myriad of media were on display. Paintings, engravings, lithographs and etchings are examples of two dimensional artworks, whilst there were also examples of three dimensional art created from wood, bronze, stone and ceramic.

Since 1996, the Chelsea Art Fair has welcomed international representation from individual artists: from 2002, exhibitors from countries such as Japan, China, Zimbabwe, Russia and France have been showcasing examples of their premier artists’ work. Those wishing to avail themselves of an original piece of art can do so for as little as £200, up to and beyond an extravagant £20 000. With this in mind, the Chelsea Art Fair is one that should appeal to the first time art collector through to seasoned connoisseurs.

Now in its seventh year, Windsor Contemporary Art Fair has quickly become recognised in the Thames Valley as an extremely prestigious event, both to exhibit in and to visit.

The venue for the Windsor Contemporary Art Fair is the Royal Windsor Racecourse and it will be open to the general public from Saturday, 12th November through to Sunday, 13th November.

The fair showcases contemporary and fine art from both well established names and new talent. It is anticipated that in excess of 100 artists will be showcasing an immense variety of artwork. Amongst these artworks will be original paintings and drawings, limited edition prints, photography, sculpture and glasswork, from both experienced and new talent.  This year’s fair is the largest yet and alongside local and UK artists has a number of new international artists and galleries.

The theme of this year’s event, as was last year’s, is ‘Art for All’. Whether you are a new collector or an experienced art collector, there is bound to be something that inspires. The prices are also more than reasonable, ranging from £30 – £3000. The atmosphere is quite informal: visitors are encouraged to browse and interact with the artists themselves, whilst listening to a variety of music, sampling wine and visiting the cafe to consider possible purchases over a light meal or cup of coffee.

There is also the chance to meet artists and commission work, whether it be landscapes, sculptures or portraits. If you are in the market for contemporary art work, the Windsor Contemporary Art Fair is one that should be on your priority list.

Approximately 300 of the world’s best galleries, from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa, will feature their best works. Since its inception in New York in 2007, PINTA has become a most important event on the Modern and Contemporary Art calendar. The organisers have made it their mission to expand the exposure of Latin American Modern and Contemporary Art via the participation of prominent galleries, curatorial projects featuring guest artists and dialogue programmes.

With this in mind, the London season of PINTA, to be held from 3rd to 6th June, 2010, promises to be a very successful event. Approximately fifty galleries of the highest quality are expected to participate. Included in this eminent list are White Cube and Haunch of Venison.

Visitors will also be treated to a programme featuring tributes to the pioneer artists Carmen Herrera and Carlos Cruz-Diez, together with a variety of art projects and solo shows; a series of dialogues will also be presented in which the position of Latin American Art within London’s institutions will be explored.

Expectation can be measured by PINTA’s influence in the acquisition of Latin American artworks by such leading institutions as Tate Modern; the University of Essex Collection of Latin American Art; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid; Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, (MACBA) and the Middlesborough Institute of Modern Art, (MIMA), England.

As in previous years, there will be in 2010 the opportunity throughout PINTA for those museums dedicated to Modern and Contemporary Latin American Art to acquire new artworks. This has been made possible as a result of a matching funds programme, where up to the present day, PINTA has donated $250,000, to be matched by participating museums and used to purchase Latin American artworks exhibited at the Fair.

The Royal Academy’s annual Summer Exhibition is the world’s largest open submission contemporary art exhibition. With the first exhibition held in 1769, it is also probably one of the oldest!

The Exhibition is now in its 242nd year and is continuing the tradition of showcasing the work of emerging talent and established artists alike. All media is represented, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, architecture and film. This year’s theme is “Raw” and works will be selected by the co-ordinators, Stephen Chambers and David Chipperfield, along this theme.

A large number of entrants have once again submitted works this year: over 11,000! As with previous years, most of these works will be for sale: what a brilliant opportunity for visitors to invest in original artwork by both well established and beginning artists!

Traditionally, the exhibition has featured the work of Academicians and Honorary Academicians: this year is no exception to this rule. Artists including Antoni Tapies, Ed Ruscha, Michael Craig-Martin, Gillian Ayres and Tracey Emin will be exhibiting new work.

The space this year for the Architecture Gallery is the large Lecture Room, with the exhibits curated and organised by David Chipperfield. There will also be an “invited” room, curated by Fiona Rae, where the latest work of artists such as Nicola Tyson, Gary Webb, Martin Maloney, Nigel Cooke and Richard Patterson will be on display.

As a result of last year’s successful BBC TWO Series Culture Show special on the Summer Exhibition, the Royal Academy of Arts is delighted to be working with the BBC once more.

In honour of Academicians who have passed away during the last twelve months, a selection of their work will also be on display in the Fine Rooms as an extension to the Main Galleries. These artists are Craigie Aitchison RA, Jim Cadbury-Brown RA, John Craxton RA, Barry Flanagan RA, Freddie Gore RA, Donald Hamilton Fraser RA, Flavia Irwin RA and Michael Kidner RA.

As an adjunct to the Exhibition, in 2010, the Royal Academy of Arts have also organised a programme of special events, evening lectures and gallery talks which are as diverse as the artists themselves. Children aged from 8-13 will receive a free printed guide sheet to the exhibition, whilst younger visitors will be given an activity tray which includes art materials: just the thing to create their own artworks!

The Summer Exhibition 2010 is open to the public from Monday, 14th June through to Sunday, 22nd August. On Fridays, the Exhibition is open later (until 10.00pm, with last admission at 9.30pm): on all other days, the hours are 10.00 am – 6.00pm.

What is Cambridge Open Studios?

Cambridge Open Studios is a membership group that collectively works to promote artists and their works in both Cambridge and also many surrounding towns and villages. All artists participating in Cambridge Open Studios will have work for sale irrespective of whether they are a working studio or an exhibition. A number of artists will also have postcards and or greeting cards for sale.

When is it?

Cambridge Open Studios is always in the month of July.  This year Cambridge Open Studios are open the first four weekends of the month, 2nd/3rd, 9th/10th, 16th/17th and 23rd/24th July. If you’d like to see a particular artist, check the guide book or website to see when artists are exhibiting. They may not be open all four weekends.

What can you expect from Cambridge Open Studios?

With just under 400 Cambridge Open Studio members in and around Cambridge, there really is something for everyone. From watercolour artists to potters, from sculptors and woodworkers to jewellery designers, not to mention beautiful textiles and photography. The Artists open their doors and welcome the public into their studios and homes to show off their beautiful works of art. It’s a fantastic opportunity to gaze at amazing treasures and if you wish, speak to the artist that created it.

You may even like to pick out a few artists from the guide who are exhibiting and create your own ‘studio tour’. Remember, the villages too, and there are so often members exhibiting all within range of a pub offering a good pub lunch, so all in a all a perfect day!
